Boys and Girls (US 2000) |
There was a post that said Neil Finn - "She Will Have Her Way" (Neil Finn) is in the movie. But it is not in the closing credits, or the soundtrack album and I didn't hear it when I watched the video.

Footrot Flats:
The Dog's
|
In the book "Who's Who Of Australian Rock", and web page Tim Finn Discography (Australian Rock Database) Tim Finn is listed as a session musician for this movie, but his name is not on the movie or CD credits. Music by Dave Dobbyn.

Grand Prix (country? date?) |
This is included because of a posting to the Crowded House e-mailing list, Tongue In The Mail, but the only movies I've found with this title are from 1934 and 1966. I'd be interested in any more information.
"Fraction Too Much Friction" (Tim Finn) ...is in Coolangatta Gold, The (Aus 1984)
Love and Other Catastrophes (Aus 1996) |
As of March 1996, Nick Seymour working on soundtrack of Love and Other Catastrophes (Aus 1996) (Internet Movie Database) aka "Let's Do It". As of March 1998, I haven't been able to find any mention of Nick in the soundtrack or video credits, I'm not sure what his role was. Any information appreciated!

Master and Commander (2003) aka The Far Side of the World |
Directed by Peter Weir
Starring Russell Crowe
Based on the books by Patrick O'Brian.
Set in the time of the Napoleonic Wars.
There was talk of Neil Finn being involved with the soundtrack, but the general conclusion was that the music would be classical and rather different from his usual style.
Music in the film:
Original Music by: Iva Davies, Christopher Gordon, Richard Tognetti
Non-Original Music by: Johann Sebastian Bach, Luigi Boccherini, Arcangelo Corelli, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ralph Vaughan Williams

Moulin Rouge (US 2000) |
Neil Finn had talked about writing music for Moulin Rouge (US 2000), directed by Baz Luhrmann, but the Internet Movie Database credits: Original music by Craig Armstrong and Marius De Vries (who produced Neil Finn's album "Try Whistling This").
He mentioned the movie in an interview when "One-Nil" was released:-

Perfect Storm, The (US 2000) |
I have been told, on very good authority that Crowded House - "Don't Dream It's Over" (Neil Finn) was considered for The Perfect Storm (US 2000), but ended up on the editing room floor.
Spice World (UK 1997) |
There was a comment that Crowded House - "Into Temptation" was playing in the background for Elvis Costello's scene in the Spice Girls' movie, Spice World (UK 1997), but having watched the movie (the things I do for this site :-) ) and checked the end credits, I found no trace of it. A couple of lines from the Hallelujah Chorus are used in the movie and credited at the end, so presumably, even if it were background music in a bar, "Into Temptation" would be listed.
Spirits Of The Air, Gremlins of The Clouds (Aus 1989) |
Director: Alex Proyas
Original music by Peter Miller
I have included this because in Australian Film 1978-1992, p286 it says:
"More like an extended music video..., its production design, art direction, musical score, cinematography and mise-en-scène evoke such a powerful amalgam of myth and iconography that any disappointments with script and acting become marginalised. As such it is perhaps best read as as a post-modern essay synthesising a vast array of intertextual references and motifs - from Erasurehead (1978) to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), Salvador Dali to Sidney Nolan, Split Enz to the Cure, T. S. Eliot to J. G. Ballard."
It used to credit: Composer: Craig Wood
However, I have been told on very good authority (Peter Miller himself!) that there is no Split Enz or Crowded House music in the movie. It is all original music by Peter Miller. He describes writing [archived] the soundtrack on his web site Perpetual Ocean.
Craig Wood was the image editor and "also provided the sound effects edit. He now works in Los Angeles and recently cut Dreamworks' 'The Mexican' for Gore Verbinski." [and subsequently worked on The Ring (2002) and three Pirates of the Caribbean movies]
Alex Proyas and Peter Miller (as Meaningful Eye Contact) made the Crowded House videos "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Better Be Home Soon".
(bonza - a rmit based film resource has information about Alex Proyas and Spirits Of The Air, Gremlins of The Clouds).
Alex Proyas has directed The Crow (1994) and I, Robot (2004).

Work in progress |
There were some snippets about soundtracks in news about Split Enz & Co, but without enough detail at the time to say what they were. It has been a while since I have seen Philip Judd credited for writing a soundtrack.
"Phil is currently writing a musical" - news from Bitz Online Sept 2001
As of March 1996, Phil Judd and Michael Den Elzen in Melbourne working on a soundtrack. [Mr Reliable???]
{Newsletter 37}
Phil Judd will start work on a movie soundtrack with ex-Boom Crash Opera keyboardist/graphic artist Greg O'Connor early 1997. [Boom Crash Opera are on "The Big Steal" soundtrack, but Greg O'Connor isn't in the writing credits. He was with the band for their first three albums, leaving about 1994.]
