- "Eight Ball deals with the traditional Australian themes of mateship and choices. It doesn't offer any great insights or drama but gives us a few chuckles and shows Melbourne and Australia beautifully, thanks to the outstanding cinematography of Mandy Walker."

Australia on the Small Screen has a still from the movie showing one of the characters, Charlie, looking at a big fish in a large aquarium. He wants to build a giant Murray cod as a tourist attraction. It seems his fictional ambition has come true in real life...

From a 1998 exam paper (1.3M pdf file) at the Board of Studies NSW Educational Resources Index:-
- "The Swan Hill Giant Murray Cod was built in Melbourne in 1991 and transported to Speewah, 15 km north of Swan Hill, as a prop for the movie Eight Ball. Once filming was finished, the 15 m-long fish was donated to Swan Hill, where community organisations funded the erection of the fish.
- Nobody saw the movie, but the prop attracts visitors by the bus load."

Ray Argall directed the Crowded House video for "World Where You Live" which was filmed at the Melbourne Showgrounds.
