Other Halves (NZ 1984)

Based on Sue McCauley's autobiographical novel. Thirty two year old Liz Harvey (Lisa Harrow) meets sixteen year old Tug Morton (Mark Pilisi) while at a psychiatric hospital. When they leave hospital, Tug moves in with Liz.

Notes

Sue McCauley's first novel. Other Halves won (1st equal) the Wattie Book of the Year Award, 1982 and the New Zealand Book Award for Fiction, 1983.

Steve Garden, Don McGlashan and Peter Scholes were in Safe As Houses, a one-off performance group started by Ivan Zagni in the 1980s. Ivan Zagni and Steve Garden are on the credits for The Complete Blam Blam Blam

The novel's rural scenes were moved to Auckland for the film.
