A few years
ago a kind person sent me some photocopies of pages from the 1970 school
magazine which mention Tim Finn and Mike Chunn. There is one photo
of Dave Dobbyn.
Tim used his first
name, Brian at school. He became Tim when most members of Split Enz
decided to use their middle names instead of their first names: eg
Tony Rayner became Eddie Rayner (Stranger Than
Fiction p79). Neil hadn't yet joined.
Brian Finn is in the magazine:-

BRIAN FINN (Half-back).
Was sound with his long, swift passes and high punts well placed for the
forwards and executed set moves with the inside backs and Fraser-Jones
with skill and precision. As his confidence improved so did his skill
in executing these moves. He was, however, inclined at times to stand
too close to the rucks.

Young Christian
Students
-
The Young Christian
Students Association has, in the last two or three years been a very slow
movement, both in its activities and in its membership; it was therefore
decided at the beginning of the year to stimulate interest in the Association
by the Election of a Committee to organise and supervise activities in
order to make the Y.C.S. more interesting and varied for the Fifth Year
boys
-
Those elected
were Greg Fraser-Jones, Brian Finn and Michael Chunn and the first term
saw a sizeable and enthusiastic following from the boys. Weekly discussions
were held in the Library under the supervision of Brother Terence.
Various clearing up operations were carried out around the College, a discussion
evening was held with pupils from a nearby girls' College and a pop concert
was held at which $50 was raised for the Korean orphans.
-
Interest varied
in the second term. This was due probably to the coming of the football
season, but by the third term weekly discussions were resumed although
out-of-school activities were somewhat restricted; for boarders, any outside
contacts with other groups was necessarily limited.
-
On the whole,
however, the Y.C.S. activities were successful and the response from the
boys was uniformly good. We hope that what was begun this year will
be carried on in the years to come with the same, if not more vigour and
enthusiasm.
